Mutual Funds

Author's Note: This piece is my district writing assessment, so I did my best on it. In my investing class we have been analyzing an article about Mutual Funds and since we have spent so much time on it I thought it would be a good idea to write about. Hope you enjoy!

There are many ways to invest, a Mutual Fund is the most beneficial. A Mutual Fund is where investors pool their money together and a portfolio manager invest the money into different  company stocks.  Even if you're a first time investor or even a veteran investor they will always be easy. Mutual Funds are the best way to start investing.

A Mutual Fund has some great advantages one being easy, a mutual fund is simple and easy to work with. Usually thought a portfolio manager takes care of it all because you might not have the time or knowledge to deal with it. Another advantage is accessibility, it’s pretty self explanatory. Your mutual fund is easy to access if you want to see how much profit you are making or if the companies that you invested in are increasing or decreasing. I think that the most important and the most beneficial advantage is diversification. Diversification is where the portfolio manager spreads the money out into all different companies. This is one of the best because if you had all your money invested in apples stocks and it went down you would lose all your money, but if you had money in apple, walmart, target, best buy, and other companies and one went down you would have all of your other stocks to make up for the lost money.

Mutual Funds have great advantages but they do have a key benefit as well. If you don’t have the time or knowledge to invest in a mutual fund or can’t  deal with it all, then comes in the portfolio manager. Once you start your mutual fund investment you can have your portfolio manager take care of everything. Sure you can go look and so how much profit you are making, what companies your portfolio manager has invested in, but if you simply can’t or don’t know how there is your portfolio manager to take care of everything.

A mutual fund is the perfect investment, a portfolio manager to deal with everything, great advantages as to why a mutual fund is the best and they're affordable. What better investment could you ask for? A mutual fund is the whole package, if you don’t know anything or don’t have the time and you want an investment in something that is simple, accessible, and uses diversification you should go with a mutual fund.

Keeping the Moon

Author's Note: This piece is my theme essay piece and I went back and arranged things so it sounds more fluent and it proves my point more throughout the story. Hope you enjoy!

Walking through the school hallway all alone, no one to sit by during lunch, being alone on the weekends with on friends to hang out with. This are all signs of lacking confidence, kids and even adults get bullied because of scenarios like this every day.  It’s sad and I wish there were more people in the world that would reach out to the ones that need to be lifted up. An example of this is Colie the main character of the book Keeping the Moon by Sarah Dessen. Colie deals with lack of confidence everyday and it makes her feel very insecure about herself.
Since Colie deals with lack of confidence I have to explain her past. Colie’s mom and Colie used to be really over weight they would travel all over the country and eat really unhealthy                                   foods. For almost each meal they almost stopped at a fast food restaurant and continue on their journey. Colie and her mom were really over weight, until her mom decided to change her tune and joined a gym. Her trainer liked her so much that they gave her a free admission into the gym, she started to join the dance workouts and began to lose weight. The trainer was so pleased and liked how friendly Colie’s mom was that she got to teach her own classes. Soon there were ladies lined up shoulder to shoulder dancing along with Colie’s mom.  When Colie’s mom started losing weight she made Colie come as well. Colie started to shed pounds but still didn’t feel confident with her new body, every night she would pinch her side thinking she still had her fat there. She always thought it was comforting it was like a shell that had been removed. The situation reminds me of the book Along for the Ride, the character Auden is not confident about herself either until she meets Eli a troubled boy. They fall in love and Auden became a changed girl.
Since Colie’s mom definitely changed after she started her new workout line, she became the ever so famous Kiki Sparks. Everybody loved her; moms all over the world were itching to get to meet her and try to get their hands on her workout products. When Colie and her mom moved to Texas Colie’s mom’s workout line really skyrocketed. So they decided to stayed, Colie’s mom had to leave for a business trip so Colie had to go stay with her Aunt Mira for the summer. Colie is not the most confident and outgoing girl, she used to get picked on when she was in her “fat years”. When she went to stay with her Aunt she meets Isabel and Morgan they became best friends. Isabel was a very pretty girl and knew all the make-up tips and tricks. She influenced Colie and taught her how to think about herself and not too much about what others say to her. She told Colie how to act and talk to others without showing any weakness so they wouldn’t get the chance to pick on her.
Isabel wasn’t the only one who changed the way Colie changed there was also Morgan. Morgan gave Colie life lessons about boys and just regular teenage things. She showed Colie how to enjoy herself and live life to the fullest. Because of Morgan Colie has become more aware of the people who have cared for her and she was able to gain self confidence.
Colie was always kept to herself and didn’t have any confidence about herself and how she treated herself. Without having any confidence in yourself you feel insecure about yourself and don’t socialize with others, and then you really miss out. Because of the friends she met during her stay in Colby she has changed into a fun and outgoing person who is more confident than ever.

Royal Roost

Author's Note: I made this piece because my mom starting a business on raising chickens. She has just started a website and on her website she wanted a little blurb on what we think about raising chickens. So here is my little blurb on what I think about raising chickens.

My life has always revolved around chickens, everywhere I turn I see something that reminds me of them. My life is totally different from a lot of people in my school, everybody thinks I live on a farm and for the record I don’t. I live in an average size house and we have a little bit of land. It may sound like a simple life, but we also have 30+ chickens, 1 bunny, 1 dog, 1 turkey, and soon a little lamb.

I believe that chickens have really changed my life, I learn things and experience things that most kids don’t. I know the meaning of responsibility and how to earn things and stead of just getting them, I know the difference between a need and a want. Sometimes I wish that we didn’t have chickens, they can be a lot of responsibility but in the long run they are totally worth the time and effort. It’s fun to be able to watch and pick your own chick and see them grow up. I am glad that I have chickens they have really affected my life in a positive way.

The Show

Author's Note: This piece was a memory that I will never forget, since I had a such a passion for horses. Since I remember it so well and I could picture it, it was so easy to write about. Hope you enjoy!

The hot sun beaming on my face, my brown hair whipping in the wind. A huge smile plastered on my face as I make my final round around the arena. I can feel the horses powerful muscles move in a graceful motion as I signal him to keep moving. It feels like I am flying, the judge signals us to line up in the center. I know that I have some competition but I feel great about how the round went. I signal my horse to stop and I sit and straighten myself to impress the judge. I sit waiting in the center watching the judge check over all the riders and horses. I look away and find my mom in the crowd watching me she smiles and waves and I wave back. The judge walks over to one of the riders and talks to them quietly she is handed a fifth place ribbon and rides out of the ring on her horse. The judge then walks over to a rider and her horse to the right of me, I remember seeing her around the grounds she was a pretty good rider. The judge slowly walks over to her and look over her and the horse one last time. He talks to her quietly and hands her a fourth place ribbon. I am starting to get really excited and nervous at the same time I am crossing my fingers and hoping that I get first, it would be my first time ever winning, and it’s even my first horse show. I snap out of my train of thought after I watch another horse and rider walk out of the ring with a third place ribbon. I started to shake like a leaf with excitement, there was just me and another girl left. The judge backs up a bit and looks us both over again. He quickly jotted something down and whispers something to his assistant. He takes a step forward in the direction of my opponent. I sigh with relief think oh my god I just won! The rider rides by but stop in front of my and congratulates me I thank her and tell her that she did great. The judge strolls over to my with a smile on his face, I can feel my cheeks starting to hurt because I am smiling so big. The judge walks over to me and says I did a great job and that I looked beautiful on the horse. I thanked him and reached down to shake his hands. I was then handed a beautiful blue ribbon, I looked at my mom who had some tears of joys in her eyes and showed me two thumbs up. I signaled my horse to walk out of the ring and people started to applaud me. I got off the horse and my family ran up to me and wrapped my up in a big hug. I felt a couple tears of joy rolling down my cheek. I turned to my horse and wrapped my arms around his neck and patted him on the back. I looked up and decided to snap the ribbon on the horses bridle. Picture time my mom said, I snuggled right up to my horse and smiled really big. My picture now sits on nightstand and I will always remember that moment.

Valentine's Day

Author's Note: Since yesterday was Valentine's I was in the mood to do something related to it. It's kind of cheesy but I may not have a boyfriend but my friends mean just as much.

Vibrant relationship
Affectionately think of you
Loving you forever
Endless love
Noble
True love
Infinite love
Nothing can keep us apart
Embrace you forever
Special Sweetheart

Darling
Admirer
You’re the one for me

Valentine’s Day

I understand why we have Valentine’s Day but it suck for the single people. All day you see couples all lovey dovey with each other and it’s frustrating. There is a happy or fun part to it though, I love to get stuff for my friends and tell them how much I appreciate them. Technically Valentine’s could be a day for friends instead of boyfriends and girlfriends. I love all of my friends and I don’t know what I would do without them.

The Hunger Games

Author's Note: I thought that this topic was quite easy to right about. It is about point of view, so I did the Hunger Games because it only has one point of view which is Katniss's. But if it was changed to Peeta's everything would be totally different.

In The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, 16 year old Katniss Everdeen is the main care taker of the Everdeen family. During the reaping her little sister is chosen to participate in a T.V. show known as the Hunger Games. Katniss volunteers for her and then is taken into Capital custody. In the book the point of view is always from Katniss, she is the only narrator of the book.

During the book everything is from Katniss’s point of view. So you can’t tell what else is going on during the games. Before the games Peeta decides to train on his own and even forms an alliance with the careers. But the book is only from Katniss’s view. Katniss believes then that he is doing all this to win. In the end it turns out that Peeta was doing what was necessary to protect Katniss, I was even thinking that Peeta was the bad guy. When Peeta formed an alliance it was suppose to help keep Katniss safe. Peeta gets cut from Cato who is the main antagonist from the book.  It seems like Peeta was suppose to get cut so he can help keep the careers of Katniss’s trail. It also effects the way how Thresh dies, in the book it says that he was killed by Cato. But in the movie it shows that he was killed by the mutations. If it was in Cato’s point of view then we would be able to tell what really happened.

If everything was in Peeta’s point of view it would be totally different, the perspective of the games and life in the seam would be totally different. We would be able to see and understand what it was like to be as a baker’s son and help Katniss when she was starving to death. In the reaping Katniss volunteered for her little sister. Peeta unfortunately did have anyone volunteer for him. It would also be different to have someone with a different personality and someone who doesn’t go hunting everyday or even go to the black market and trade some game. Peeta has a total different personality he is more friendly and risking to save his life for Katniss. I’m sure he would see other tributes in a different way. Unlike Katniss who would not even want to be with Peeta or even care about other tributes because she would come to attached and then have to have him die in order for her to win and go home back to Prim and her mom, even Gale.

I thought that the overall point of view was good; it would be different to have it in someone else’s view and not just Katniss’s.  We would be able to see and understand what happens in other places during the games and other deaths. I am glad that it is only in one point of view if it wasn’t I think things would get to complicated trying the figure out who was were and what was going on. Katniss’s point of view is interesting and makes you wonder what else is going on.
