The Hunger Games

Author's Note: I thought that this topic was quite easy to right about. It is about point of view, so I did the Hunger Games because it only has one point of view which is Katniss's. But if it was changed to Peeta's everything would be totally different.

In The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, 16 year old Katniss Everdeen is the main care taker of the Everdeen family. During the reaping her little sister is chosen to participate in a T.V. show known as the Hunger Games. Katniss volunteers for her and then is taken into Capital custody. In the book the point of view is always from Katniss, she is the only narrator of the book.

During the book everything is from Katniss’s point of view. So you can’t tell what else is going on during the games. Before the games Peeta decides to train on his own and even forms an alliance with the careers. But the book is only from Katniss’s view. Katniss believes then that he is doing all this to win. In the end it turns out that Peeta was doing what was necessary to protect Katniss, I was even thinking that Peeta was the bad guy. When Peeta formed an alliance it was suppose to help keep Katniss safe. Peeta gets cut from Cato who is the main antagonist from the book.  It seems like Peeta was suppose to get cut so he can help keep the careers of Katniss’s trail. It also effects the way how Thresh dies, in the book it says that he was killed by Cato. But in the movie it shows that he was killed by the mutations. If it was in Cato’s point of view then we would be able to tell what really happened.

If everything was in Peeta’s point of view it would be totally different, the perspective of the games and life in the seam would be totally different. We would be able to see and understand what it was like to be as a baker’s son and help Katniss when she was starving to death. In the reaping Katniss volunteered for her little sister. Peeta unfortunately did have anyone volunteer for him. It would also be different to have someone with a different personality and someone who doesn’t go hunting everyday or even go to the black market and trade some game. Peeta has a total different personality he is more friendly and risking to save his life for Katniss. I’m sure he would see other tributes in a different way. Unlike Katniss who would not even want to be with Peeta or even care about other tributes because she would come to attached and then have to have him die in order for her to win and go home back to Prim and her mom, even Gale.

I thought that the overall point of view was good; it would be different to have it in someone else’s view and not just Katniss’s.  We would be able to see and understand what happens in other places during the games and other deaths. I am glad that it is only in one point of view if it wasn’t I think things would get to complicated trying the figure out who was were and what was going on. Katniss’s point of view is interesting and makes you wonder what else is going on.

Rodger and Auden Compare and Contrast

Author's Note: This is my compare and contrast piece, I thought I did well on this. In the list I compare Auden from Along for the Ride and Rodger from Thank you Ma'am. Hope you enjoy and tell me what you think.

-mature and school driven-16
-family always at home
- no childhood
-no social life

-parents fighting or no one to watch her
- both deserve a better childhood

-wild and frail-14-15
-Nobody at home to feed him
- dirty face, un-brushed hair
- stealing and un trustworthy
- other friends that roam the streets

Rodger/ lifestyle                                      Same                                        Auden

Obviously Auden and Rodger are not the same, they have a lot of differences but they had one big similarity that they can really relate too. Auden is a school driven girl that had to deal with her parents fighting when she was little. Because her parents fought she just kept to herself and busied herself with school work, she had no social life as well. Rodger on the other hand was the total opposite and he had a social life he was always hanging out with people, although he didn’t have a parent figure to tell him the rights and wrongs. In the story it says that Rodger stole from a lady and she asked if he just roams the streets and he said yes. The biggest thing that they have in common is both of them deserve a better childhood. Auden with no social life and always doing school work and then Rodger roaming the streets of New York and steeling from others. Having a childhood is important it gives you time to be mature and enjoy life unlike the book the Outsiders were the Greasers have to grow up fast and work so they can eat and have shelter.

Keeping the Moon

Author's Note: Here is my Theme essay, this wasn't the easiest essay I have done. I think it's alright though and I think I did a good job connecting to something in a real world. Please comment on what you think!

Walking through the school hallway all alone, no one to sit by during lunch, being alone of the weekends with on friends to hang out with. This are all signs of lacking confidence, kids and even adults get bullied because of scenarios like this every day.  It’s sad and I wish there were more people in the world that would reach out the ones that need to be lifted up. An example of this is Colie the main character of the book Keeping the Moon by Sarah Dessen. Colie deals with lack of confidence everyday and it makes her feel insecure about herself.

First I have to explain Colie’s past, her and her mom used to be really over weight they would travel all over the country. For each meal they almost stopped at a fast food restaurant and continue on their journey. Colie and her mom were really over weight, until her mom joined a gym. Her trainer liked her so much that they gave her a free admission into the gym. She started to join the dance workouts and began to lose weight. They trainer was so pleased and liked how friendly Colie’s mom was that she got to teach her own classes. Soon there were ladies lined up shoulder to shoulder dancing along with Colie’s mom.  This reminds me of the book Along for the Ride, the character Auden is not confident about herself either until she meets Eli a troubled boy. They fell in love and Auden became a changed girl.

Since Colie’s mom definitely changed she started her new workout line. She became the ever so famous Kiki Sparks. Everybody loved her; moms all over the world were itching to get to meet her and try to get their hands on her workout products. When Colie and her mom moved to Texas Colie’s mom’s workout line really sky rocketed. So they stayed, Colie’s mom had to leave for a business trip so Colie had to go stay with her Aunt Mira for the summer. Colie is not the most confident and outgoing girl, she used to get picked on when she was in her “fat years”. When she went to stay with her Aunt she meets Isabel and Morgan they became best friends. Isabel was a very pretty girl and new all the make-up tips and tricks. She influenced Colie and taught her how to think about herself and not too much about what others say to her. She told Colie how to act and talk to others without showing any weakness so they wouldn’t get the chance to pick on her.

Isabel wasn’t the only one who changed the way Colie changed there was also Morgan. Morgan gave Colie life lessons about boys and just other teenage things. She showed Colie how to enjoy herself and live life to the fullest. Because of Morgan Colie has become more aware of the people who have cared for her.

Colie was always kept to herself and didn’t have any confidence about herself and how she treated herself. Without having any confidence in yourself you feel insecure about yourself and don’t socialize with others, and then you really miss out. Because of the friends she met during her stay in Colby she has changed into a fun and outgoing person who is more confident than ever.

Prediction Piece- Appearance

Author's Note: This was a hard topic for me to to mainly because I was gone and needed to be caught up but also because I couldn't find a good story. So hope you enjoy and comment what you think!

Story- Appearance

In the begging of the story everything seems fine, Ellen moves into a little apartment in the Western part of Cleveland. She doesn’t have a lot of things in her apartment not even a bed. It’s always the same old thing. But one morning a man shows up at her window while she is making a pot of tea. The man she describes looks homeless and kid of translucent. She sees this man every morning at the same time for a while. But unexpectedly on morning a women in a beat up car comes and sits in her driveway, every time Ellen would go outside the lady would drive away. On one morning she stayed and Ellen offered her to come inside,  did and they talked about the ladies life in the apartment. Then the man came and the lady noticed Ellen looking out the window. The lady saw nothing though, Ellen noticed that were the man touched the window frost created and then it hit her.

My prediction is that the man is a ghost and that he is the husband of the lady. The way that the man is described leads you on the thinking he is a ghost. Because it makes no sense that a man would come at the same time every morning and peer into the window. I could be wrong but when Ellen would look out the window for tracks she would find nothing. It makes no sense, why would the lady be there in the first place then. The man always has a sad face, maybe because he died or the way he died but I don’t think that a normal person always has a sad face.

Turns out that he was a ghost and was the fiancĂ© of the lady, he killed himself in the apartment the lady said he took to many pills, he lost his job and a spot in a band. The man had a name is name was Eric, the lady said that her parents didn’t like him and didn’t want the two to get married. When the lady left Eric the ghost got into the car with the lady and left.

The Truth about Forever Character Analysis

Author's Note: This piece is for my analysis essay. In this piece I tried a different technique for my transitions, I think it went well and was easier that what I used to do before I hope you like it please give some feedback!

In the book “The Truth about Forever” by Sarah Dessen is a great example for a character that changes throughout the story. The main character is Macy, she is a shy and kept to herself person. Ever since her dad died she never really communicated with her mom only when it was necessary. She was always a hard worker and really school driven, the total opposite of her sister Caroline. When Macy was younger she used to run with her dad but when her dad died of a heart attack she stopped running. Macy changes drastically during this book.

Macy changes a lot in the book because of many reasons. The main one is when she takes up a catering
Job. Her mom hires a catering company come to her house. People come to see what she can do to build the perfect house for interested family’s. During the night the catering company has some issues and Macy’s mom notices and wants Macy to go see what is going on. Then she spends the rest of the night helping the people of the business. The one person that really sticks out is Wes; he is a handsome boy that Macy seems interested in, although she is still in a relationship with Jason her boyfriend. Macy gets an offer to join the company. She finds out that the name of the company is Wish and she decides to take the job.

The catering company was one of the issues that changed Macy, but there was also breaking up with Jason. In the beginning of the summer Jason went to a Brain Camp and Macy would email him while he was gone. When she said I love you at the end of one of the emails, Jason kind of freaked and told Macy they should take a break until he gets back. Since she joined the catering business, she spent more time with Wes, and Kristy another person from the catering job. After one of the jobs all of them would go to a party hoping to find Macy the perfect boyfriend. Macy soon got more confident in herself, but her mom didn’t like her change. She wanted her to stay where she was and continue to be a perfect girl and focus on school.

Macy was starting to become a more friendly person and not want to work on school so much. In the end Macy ends up  outgoing person and nice person. She doesn’t get back with Jason, but starts a relationship with Wes. Her mom eventually understands and loosens her grip on Macy. Macy really changed from the beginning of the book to the end, and you could clearly see it.

Patriots Pen Essay

Author's Note: This topic was really hard for me to write about because i'm not really into American history like this. I'm not saying I don't like it i'm just not that experiences with it. But anyways here is my patriots pen essay and our topic was "What would you tell America's Founding Fathers?" Hope you like it!

Dear people of America,

I’m grateful for all that the founding fathers have done to make our country great and one of the best, heck they basically start the country. There are however a couple things that I would have changed or done to make it even better. But right now I am grateful for all we have. This country is great and amazing, and I am proud to be an American.

American’s are thankful everyday for all that you have accomplished. However there are some people who hate our country because of all the stuff that we can do. We have freedom of speech, freedom of religion and i'm sure that there are many more reasons as to why other countries are jealous. Our country is great and the men who started such a great country need some credit. It wasn’t just George Washington, it was also: John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Alexander Hamilton, John Jay, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, and John Hancock. I know your thinking thats a lot of people but they made our country strong. Although they are not perfect like Thomas Jefferson, he had slaves when he became a founding father. It wasn’t until Abraham Lincoln came along and stopped slavery. Slavery was a bad thing but, it did help us with the plantations but all people sould be equally not better than others. Slavery showed that white men and women were better than black people and it shouldn’t be that way.

Slavery was one of main flaws but there aren't just flaws there are huge success. Such as us becoming one nation blacks and whites. In one of my favorite lady gaga songs she sings “No matter gay, straight, or bi, Lesbian........No matter black, white or beige”. It really doesn’t matter who your are or were you came from all that matters is if you proud to be an American.
